Bagheria celebrates Easter with a rich programme of events

From 12 to 20 April 2025

By resolution No. 75 of 28 March 2025, the Bagheria municipal council approved the “Easter Festivities 2025” project. This initiative was made possible thanks to the adhesion to the public notice of the Metropolitan City of Palermo for the granting of economic contributions to support the municipalities of the metropolitan area during the Easter period.
The administration’s primary objective is to promote moments of aggregation for the entire community, involving its various associative, scholastic, and social components.

‘On the occasion of Holy Easter 2025,’ says the mayor Filippo Maria Tripoli, “we wanted to realise a programme of initiatives aimed at animating the city, enhancing the religious, cultural and folkloristic traditions of the area, as well as promoting the development of local activities and tourism.”

The “Easter Festivities 2025” project, with a total cost of 10,000 euro, is divided into a calendar of events that will take place from Saturday 12 April to Sunday 20 April 2025, offering a wide range of events for all ages and tastes.

The program includes:

Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 8:00 pm, “Via Crucis Aspra“. The XXXIV edition of the evocative living Via Crucis will be held in the seaside hamlet of Aspra, starting from Piazza Monsignor Cipolla, an event of profound spirituality and tradition created in collaboration with the Parish of Maria SS. Addolorata of Aspra and the Passio Christi Association.

Palm Sunday, April 13, 2025, at 9:00 pm, performance of the innovative musical “And the cock crowed – the passion of Christ in the eyes of Peter” at the auditorium of the parish of Maria SS. del Carmelo. This mimetic story, composed of static pictures interspersed with choreographic songs, will narrate the passion of Christ from the point of view of Simon Peter, exploring themes of human fragility and unconditional love. And in the streets of Aspra the drummers will play their colorful drums.

Monday 14 April 2025: “Happy Easter & Pupu cu l’ovu” event. In the afternoon, the streets of the city will come alive with a traveling event that will culminate in Villa Butera.
The initiative, promoted by the non-profit organization LLL4Eu chaired by the teacher Chiara Audia, aims to raise awareness among the younger generations on the value of material and immaterial heritage, with a focus on the typical “pupu cu l’ovu”. “Easter trees” will be set up along Corso Umberto, and in the atrium of Villa Butera there will be singing and theatrical performances by the students of the city schools, including the interpretation of “Diu vi salvi Regina” by the Coro delle donne.
A special moment will be dedicated to the storytelling of the “pupu cu l’ovu”, to the creation of a canvas shared by the students of the Renato Guttuso Art High School and to an engaging “Hunt for the Pupu cu l’ovu” for children.
A local baker will offer a show cooking on the preparation of the Easter cake, while the pastry chef Giovanni La Rosa will tell its story.
An Erasmus group from Portugal will be guests of the event to share traditional songs and a typical cake. Easter-themed workshops for children will also be active.

Tuesday 15 April at 9:00 pm, Theatrical show “L’anima mia magnifica le tue mani” at the Church of Villa Butera. This poetic narration explores the intense internal dialogue of Mary of Sorrows with her dead Son, offering a reflection on the complexity of the bond between parents and children, touching on themes of nostalgia, identity, love and pain. The performance invites us to resist and find the light in the hope of rebirth and reconciliation.

On Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at 9:00 p.m., a show by Sicilian storyteller Paolo Zarcone “Matri Dulurusi” will take place at the Monsignor Muratore theater in Villa Butera. Paolo Zarcone will bring to the stage an intense theatrical and musical performance on the theme of the mother-child bond in Sicilian popular culture, giving voice to the torment of mothers who have seen their children victims of social injustice. In addition to his compositions, Zarcone will perform texts by authors such as Ignazio Buttitta and Ciccio Busacca.

Holy Saturday, April 19, 2025, entertainment for children is planned along the main street with the street artists “Due Cuori e una Sinapsi” curated by Sbada Clown, who will offer clowning, juggling and acrobatics. At 5:30 pm, a concert by the “Cutrona Strings Quartet” will be held at the Fumagalli Martorana hall of Villa Butera.

Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025: The “Tamburinai” will liven up the streets of the historic center with their engaging percussion, creating a festive atmosphere to celebrate the Resurrection.

The Municipal Administration invites all citizens to participate in large numbers in these events, designed to celebrate Easter in the name of tradition, culture and sharing.
