A fertile and lush plain, elegant villas and aristocratic residences with tree-lined avenues, sumptuous ornamental parks and romantic gardens: all this made Bagaria-as it was called in the 18th century-one of the most visited destinations of the Grand Tour, as stated in the synopsis of the volume. But what has remained of this “place of delights”? From this question stems the author’s ambitious and visionary idea to embark on a journey in search of her “ideal city,” recreating on canvas architectures and places that are today heavily damaged, when they no longer exist, in order to retrace through words and images the history of Bagheria at the time of its heyday. The volume is lo insight into the noble society of the mid-18th century.
