A journey into the dystopian future at Villa Butera:
Filippo Chiello presents ‘Where the eyes stop’
Saturday 08 February 2025
It is a journey into the dystopian future in Filippo Chiello‘s novel entitled: ‘Dove gli occhi si fermano’, which will be presented on 8 February in the Fumagalli-Martorana room of Villa Butera, at 5.30 pm.
The event, open to all fans of science fiction and dystopias, will be attended by the mayor of Bagheria, Filippo Maria Tripoli, for institutional greetings. In dialogue with the author will be Giusi Chiello, municipal councillor with responsibility for Communication.
In ‘Dove gli occhi si fermano’, humanity is trapped in a totalitarian system that pervades every aspect of existence. Citizens, lulled by a comfortable and carefree life, have sacrificed freedom in exchange for an illusory security. Against this distressing backdrop, Orlando and Ulysses, two characters at opposite ends of the spectrum, embark on a path of rebellion to assert their individuality and give new meaning to their lives. Beneath the science fiction surface, the novel conceals a profound reflection on contemporary society. With a sharp and ironic look, Filippo Chiello warns us of the dangers of technological dependence, the loss of human values and the need to oppose all forms of oppression.
Filippo Chiello, already the author of ‘Via Santa Chiara 15’, ‘Lo Diceva Picasso’ and ‘Dal Ponte più alto’, returns with a mature and engaging work that enraptures the reader from the very first pages. His writing, fluid and rich in evocative images, transports us into a parallel dimension, making us feel the emotions and fears of the protagonists at first hand.
