In Bagheria the “XXIX Day of Memory and Commitment in Remembrance

of the innocent victims of mafia”

The municipal administration, with the support of the departments of Communication and Public Education, led respectively by Councillors Giusy Chiello and Provvidenza Tripoli, is sponsoring the march on the occasion of the “XXIX Day of Memory and Commitment in Remembrance of Innocent Victims of Mafia.”
Below we publish the message of the promoters who are organizing the event in collaboration with the City of Bagheria.
March 21 is the … every year “Libera association, names and numbers against mafias” promotes events on a national scale.
<<The initiative stems from the pain of a mother who lost her son in the Capaci massacre and never hears his name spoken. A pain that becomes unbearable if the victim is denied even the right to be remembered by his own name>>.
Since 1996, every year, a different city, a long list of names mark the memory that becomes a daily commitment.
On March 1, 2017, by unanimous vote in the Chamber of Deputies, the bill establishing and recognizing March 21 as the “Day of Remembrance and Commitment in Memory of the Victims of the Mafia” was approved.
<<Awareness of what the Mafia phenomenon is, we believe, is the first and fundamental step to really counter the spread of these organizations. It turns out to be even more useful that this contrast starts from the school, the first frontier of the clash with the rooting in the territories of these organizations>>.
For this reason, as the nonprofit organization LLL4EU and as the Youth Council of Bagheria, we considered it essential to join the initiative promoted by Libera again this year, through an ad hoc path for our Bagheria.
Happy with the adhesion of numerous schools in our area and the patronage of the City of Bagheria, we invite the entire Bagheria citizenry, and not only, to participate strongly in the event to be held on the morning of Thursday, March 21.
The route will start from Via Dante extension and will wind through Via Dante, Corso Butera, Corso Umberto I until arriving at Piazza Vittime della Mafia, in the historic center.
