Bagheria prepares for “CarniLivari Baaria 2024”
Kicking off Feb. 4 program of carnival events
Bagheria is preparing for carnival. It is called “CarniLivari BAARIA 2024″ the program that the municipal administration of Bagheria with the support of Proloco Aspra Aps is putting together and which starts on Sunday, February 4.
At work for this program is the Department of Communication and Entertainment led by Giusy Chiello, with the support of the departments of Decentralization led by Andrea Sciortino and Public Education headed by Provvidenza Tripoli.
The Municipality of Bagheria during the period from February 4 to 13, Shrove Tuesday, will collaborate with associations, professionals, stakeholders of the Sicilian territory to promote the Bagheria and Sicilian Carnival tradition.
It starts on Sunday, Feb. 4, at 11 a.m. with the initiative “Carnival at the court of Villa Aragona Cutò” which becomes a photographic set where models wearing 18th-century Bagheria-themed dresses become the protagonists of a photo contest “Bagheria Carnival through the lenses” conceived and curated by the association “Fotografando”.
Participation in the contest is free and open to all amateur photographers. To participate each participating photographer, must post a maximum of 10 photographs, on a special facebook page made available by the organizers whose url will be announced in the coming days. The best photo, and the best mask of the event, will be selected and will be awarded with a souvenir plaque. Photos must be in digital jpg format with a resolution of 300 dpi, and can only be taken with a camera (no cell phones). No photomontages are allowed. All photos must be posted on the facebook page by February 11, 2024. The winning photo and mask will be judged by a panel of professional judges.
On Tuesday, Feb. 6, starting at 4 p.m., the carnival moves to Villa San Cataldo where, carnival masks and sculptures will be on display until Feb. 13. The exhibition is curated by the Nofrio and Virticchio association in collaboration with the Renato Guttuso Art School.
On Thursday, Feb. 8, 2024, at 3:30 p.m., “CARNIVAL AT THE COURSE”. An inaugural event amid masks, entertainment and mascots and with songs by the children of the Bagheria IV Aspra Comprehensive Institute choir, accompanied by teacher Angela Zarcone and with the support of Ciccio Maggiore’s “The Dancing Tribe” group and also with Majorettes and Drummers of Aspra by Maestro Gaetano La Licata. The event is curated by the training organizations: Euroform, Centro Studi Aurora, Cirs, ESFO, which are present with the hair and makeup sections that will be able to disguise and make-up those who want to and the cooking section that will offer sweets from the best carnival tradition, all along Corso Umberto I. And those who wish, including children, youth and adults, will be able to take a catwalk showing off original costumes and masks.
The program gets into full swing with the parades on Sunday, Feb. 11, at 3:30 p.m. in the seaside hamlet of Aspra with “Carnevale a mare” with a parade in the seaside hamlet of Aspra by the City of Bagheria and the Pro Loco of Aspra.
Ideal location Piano Stenditore with the background of the beautiful sea of Aspra. The parade will feature carnival floats, entertainment, costume parade with the involvement of the city’s dance and dance schools. Animation and entertainment by Vincenzo Maniscalco Fotografia and musical entertainment by Ignazio Gagliano and The Dancing Tribe will be provided during the event.
Dedicated to the little ones is Monday, Feb. 12, starting at 8:30 a.m., with the “Carnival of the Little Ones”. A carnival parade organized by the City of Bagheria and the Pro Loco of Aspra that will involve children from the city’s kindergartens and parochial schools with ages 0- 6 accompanied by parents and grandparents. The children, in masks, will cross for a short route through the city center, parading along a section of Corso Butera and Umberto I. The children will be accompanied by carnival floats with cartoon subjects and children’s music. The theme that has been shared with the schools is: Fairy tale and fantasy. Musical entertainment will be provided by Ignazio Gagliano and The Dancing Tribe.
The Bagheria Carnival, 2024 edition, concludes on Shrove Tuesday, Feb. 13, with the Bagheria Students’ Carnival Parade, starting at 8:30 a.m. The carnival parade, organized by the City of Bagheria, the Pro Loco of Aspra and all the city schools, will involve primary and secondary school students along with their teachers. The parade will cross with its carnival floats, Corso Butera and Corso Umberto I and will be enriched by musical entertainment. Again, the theme shared with the schools is fairy tales and fantasy.
The goal that the municipal administration has set itself with this program organized thanks also to the ProLoco and the city associations and schools is to enhance the popular, cultural, artistic, and monumental Bagherese tradition, promoting moments of aggregation, socialization, sharing and inclusion with particular attention to the younger segments of the population and all schools of all levels, finally enhancing the monumental heritage of Bagherese.
