Tommaso Aiello Comprehensive Institute: Christmas Show
“Voices of the Heart, Echoes of Life”
On 19 December 2024, at 4.30 pm at Palazzo Butera
Christmas show by I.C.T. Aiello on 19 December at 4.30 pm at Palazzo Butera in Bagheria. The Headmaster Prof. Nunzio Speciale will present the Christmas show ‘Voices of the Heart, Echoes of Life’ performed by the primary and secondary school pupils. The performance will be divided into alternating moments: the pupils of the teaching choir will present typical traditional Christmas songs, while the student actors will stage four living paintings inspired by the works of the artist Banksy and revisited in a contemporary key. The living paintings are food for thought on various topical issues, from combating gender violence and various forms of discrimination to respect for human rights, environmental protection and peace in times of war. The performance is the result of the school projects: ‘With us it’s… all another music’ – curated by teachers Calcedonio Tutino, Alessandro Corsini, Loredana Giarrusso, Maria Rosa Barbarino and with the participation of instrument teachers Salvatore Barberi (saxophone), Biagio De Luca (trumpet), Francesco Pavia (horn), Giuseppe Pipitone (guitar) – and ‘Les tableaux vivants: reflections on Christmas’, curated by teachers: Margherita Aiello, Barbara Cannova, Concetta Perez, Marika Presentato.
‘It is inescapable that musical, theatrical and choreographic practice is an important and positive stimulus for our pupils,’ says I.C. T. Aiello headmaster Nunzio Speciale, ’because it can instil a sensitivity that goes far beyond didactic practice. The entire project focuses on interdisciplinarity and continuity between the school orders, an aspect that can be considered an identifying characteristic of our institute. I am firmly convinced that the sense of belonging cannot but contemplate associative moments such as this, which are fundamental prerequisites for true continuity between the different school orders’.
‘The multidisciplinary course,’ says teacher Margherita Aiello, “set itself the priority objective of educating the students in the expressive and choreographic arts, involving the individual through theatre, with its corporeity, thoughts and feelings, but also with its profound humanity and awareness of values. It also represented an important moment for building meaningful relationships, aimed at strengthening group identity, stimulating mutual knowledge, sharing, cooperation and appreciation of heterogeneity”.
‘The event,’ concludes Headmaster Nunzio Speciale, ’is open to the school audience, but also to the local area, as is implicit in the educational and training goals of T. Aiello. In fact, it aims to ascertain and disseminate the multiple transversal skills of our pupils, but it is also an opportunity to extend, on behalf of the entire Institute, our sincerest wishes for the upcoming Christmas holidays and the incipient New Year, in the hope that 2025 may be a harbinger of serenity for the entire Community’.
The performance is sponsored by the Municipality of Bagheria. Speakers will include Antonella Insinga, Councillor for Public Education, Romana Franzone, President of the Rotary Community Corps, Michele Balistreri, President of the ‘La Piana D’oro’ Association, and Giuseppe Puleo, SIULP Executive of the State Police.
