Le Notti d’Oro’ (The Golden Nights) returns to Bagheria, the festival of the best short films
of the year awarded by Film Academies around the world

Back in Bagheria, on 20 and 21 November, at the Cinema Capitol Multisala ‘ Le Notti d’Oro’, the prestigious world festival of short films, promoted by the César French Film Academy and the Italian Film Academy – Premi David di Donatello.
The screenings, with free admission and subject to availability, will be held at the Cinema Capitol Multisala (hall A and hall B) on Wednesday 20 (8.30 am, 11 am, 6.30 pm, 9 pm), and Thursday 21 November (8.30 am, 11 am).
This year’s programme welcomes a selection of short fiction, documentary and animation films from different countries around the world and awarded by their respective film academies with the most prestigious prizes such as César, Oscar, Bafta, David di Donatello, Goya, Magritte. A film marathon that can be attended in three sessions: matinees designed for local high schools, an afternoon session and an evening session for the general public.
The following will be presented as part of the festival: The Meatseller by Margherita Giusti (David di Donatello Award, Italy), an animated documentary that tells through the narrator’s voice of the protagonist, Selinna Ajamikoko, a story of drama, stereotypes and redemption; Leila by Fariba Haridari (Gudbagge Award, Sweden) a touching insight into the life of Leila, a charming 64-year-old transgender man who finds himself constantly living and claiming his place in a world that is hostile to him; War is Over by Dave Mullins (Academy Award, USA), an animated film inspired by the music of John Lennon and Yoko Ono about a heroic pigeon who becomes the messenger – amidst trenches, blood and explosions – of a battle within a battle; La Mécanique des Fluides by Gala Hernández López (César Award, France), a short film that depicts the virtual drift through the Internet, which ends up becoming an inner journey between ‘connected solitudes’; Lucid Dreaming by Emma Evelein (Gouden Kalf Award, Netherlands), a fascinating short film that explores the border between dream and reality, managing to capture the essence of the inner journey of the protagonist, who navigates between her anxieties and desires.
During the opening night, the Sicilian premiere of the short film Per non dimenticare (Not to Forget ) by Zoe Perfetti and Vincenzo Merlo from Bagheria, which was awarded the 2024 Roberto Rossellini Prize for best screenplay at the Rome Film Festival, will be presented. The film pays tribute to the victims of Calvi dell’Umbria, exploring the emotional bond between two generations and the importance of historical memory. The director will be present in the theatre.

He continues: ‘Supporting initiatives of this kind means investing in the future of our community.
‘The city of Bagheria is once again confirmed as a centre of international culture with Le Notti d’Oro,’ explains Daniele Nicola Vella, Cultural Councillor of the Municipality of Bagheria, ‘ an important multicultural audiovisual showcase that we have chosen to sponsor again this year as the only Sicilian stage. Our thanks go to the organisers, who with professionalism have succeeded in attracting the attention of the Academy of Italian Cinema to our territory’.

And she continues: ‘I thank the school directors of the area’s secondary schools, who have welcomed the proposal to encourage the younger audience towards the cinema as an educational practice, a place of aggregation and an opportunity to discuss issues of great relevance and topicality’.
